The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is one of the most popular and recognizable gold coins in the world, produced by the Royal Canadian Mint and first minted in 1979. The silver version of the coin has been in production since 1988 and is also among the most popular silver coins. The coin is known for its purity and design, making it a favourite among collectors and investors worldwide. It is available in the following weights: 1 oz (31.10 g), 1/2 oz (15.55 g), 1/4 oz (7.78 g), 1/10 oz (3.10 g) and 1/20 oz (1.55 g) in the gold version, and 1 oz (31.10 g) in the silver version.
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which has been updated over the years to reflect her aging. The latest versions depict the image of King Charles III. The obverse also includes the coin's face value and year of issue. This side was designed by Arnold Machin, Dora de Pédery-Hunt, or Susanna Blunt, depending on the year of minting.
The reverse side features the Canadian maple leaf, the national symbol of Canada. This side also displays the purity and weight of the coin. The design was created by Walter Ott, a renowned engraver, and has remained unchanged since its introduction in 1979.
The Gold Maple Leaf coin has been produced with various security features over the years, such as radial lines and a micro-engraved laser mark, to prevent counterfeiting and ensure authenticity. It is important to note that while the coin has a face value of 50 Canadian dollars, its market value is significantly higher, as it depends on the current gold price and collector demand.
