Information about the Australian kangaroo
The Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin is one of the most famous gold bullion coins produced by The Perth Mint. Originally introduced in 1986 as the Australian Gold Nugget, the series was later redesigned in 1989 to feature the iconic kangaroo, Australia's national symbol.
The obverse side displays the effigy of King Charles III (previously Queen Elizabeth II before 2023).
The reverse side features a new kangaroo design each year, along with the "P" mintmark from The Perth Mint. Since 2019, The Perth Mint has included a micro-laser engraved letter within the reverse design of each coin. This tiny detail is only visible under magnification, making it difficult for counterfeiters to replicate.
