Information about the Krugerrand
First introduced in 1967, the Krugerrand is the world's first one-ounce gold investment coin. The front of the coin depicts Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger, former president of the Transvaal Republic, and the back side features the springbok, the national animal of South Africa. It is produced by the South African Mint through the Rand Refinery. The coin is made of 91.67% gold and 8.33% copper and is available in weights of 33.93 grams (one Krugerrand), 16.96 grams (half Krugerrand), 8.48 grams (quarter Krugerrand) and 3.39 grams (one-tenth Krugerrand).
