To mark the 50th anniversary of the gold Krugerrand, a silver version of this renowned investment coin was released in 2017. It is made of 99.9% pure silver and is available in a one-ounce (31.1035 grams) version.

The gold version is the world’s first one-ounce gold investment coin. On the obverse (front side) of the coin is an image of Paul Kruger (Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger), the former president of the Republic of Transvaal, while on the reverse (back side) of the coin there is a springbok antelope, the national animal of South Africa. The front side of the coin was designed by Otto Schulz, while the reverse side was designed by Coert Steynberg.

It is produced by the South African Mint in collaboration with Rand Refinery.
